Healthy Together Now Being Used by #9 Football Team in the Country to Stay Safe

At BYU, 93%+ of students, faculty and staff are using Healthy Together to generate a daily Health Pass. Per BYU, “if any person feels sick, he or she should stay home instead of coming to campus. Before accessing in-person campus services, each person will be required to show a green indicator on the “Health Pass" screen. If students or employees have an orange or red indicator, they should get tested immediately and connect with the campus service remotely. Personal COVID-19 test results also will be accessible through the app.”

BYU, the largest private university in the country, began using Healthy Together during the 2020 Fall Semester. The university has been utilizing Healthy Together's end-to-end COVID-19 response platform for Health Pass, on campus testing, test result delivery and more to keep their case count low and stop the spread. BYU currently has over 93% Healthy Together adoption on campus.

Key Features
BYU is leveraging the following to ensure the safety of their students and employees:

  • Student/Faculty Daily Symptom Assessment & Campus Health Pass
  • Bluetooth Exposure Alert System
  • Contact Tracing Interview & Response
  • Testing Result Delivery

Health Pass
At BYU, students, faculty and staff are using the Healthy Together app to complete daily symptom checks. Per BYU, “if any person feels sick, he or she should stay home instead of coming to campus. Before accessing in-person campus services, each person will be required to show a green indicator on the “Health Pass” screen. If students or employees have an orange or red indicator on the checkup screen, they should get tested immediately and connect with the campus service remotely. Personal COVID-19 test results also will be accessible through the app.”

BYU athletes, including members of the #9 football team in the country, started using the Healthy Together app mid-August rather than continuing with their wristband check-in. Each day athletes are to answer a series of questions regarding potential exposure and symptoms for COVID-19 and then trainers check the app as the athletes enter practice.

Member of the BYU cheer squad, Chloe Zaugg, said, “I have liked the convenience of using the Healthy Together app. I can fill out the questions before I get to practice so that when I get to practice I don’t have to wait in a line to get a wristband to say I am cleared.”

Testing & Results

BYU had a goal of mass testing their student body for the return of the Spring semester. Within 10 days of the semester opening, they completed 20,000+ rapid tests on campus with the aid of Healthy Together's technology. Results were ready for on-site lab techs to view in about 15 minutes and were instantly uploaded to the Healthy Together platform for mobile viewing. In most cases, results were delivered on Healthy Together within 30 minutes of leaving the testing area.

Health Pass to Access Campus
Not only are athletes at BYU using the Healthy Together app to get cleared for practice each day, but they are required to show the app to access certain campus services. The Nutrition Center is another place on campus that requires athletes to show their Healthy Together app in order to receive service.

By leveraging Healthy Together, BYU has been able to ensure their mission is accomplished: keep campus open and give students a safe place to come and enjoy the university experience.
